Legendary mountain passes in the wake of famous cyclists and much, much more. It takes patience, attention and… a good map to find an area in the Alps that, in just a few kilometres, concentrates as many climbs, famous roads and mountain passes as Valtellina.
Stelvio, Gavia and Mortirolo are the most famous, but there are also Bernina, Santa Cristina, Aprica, San Marco, Spluga, Maloja, Foscagno, Forcola and many more.
Within a radius of just a few dozen kilometres there are some of cycling’s most famous uphill stretches, a real paradise for aficionados wanting to dedicate a week or even longer to their passion. One example? Here’s our suggestion for a week’s tourist cycling up and down in Valtellina, starting with the “mythical trio” from the Giro d’Italia. Stelvio, Gavia and Mortirolo.
