Snowshoeing in Valdidentro

Val Viola, the ‘wood road’ and the joyful Giro Felice

Mapped out as the largest municipality in Valtellina, there is no shortage of snowshoe routes up here.

If you’ve ever dreamed of a winter wonderland, it probably looks a lot like Val Viola, which has a range of walks including circular ones that take you through the most jaw-dropping scenery in Alta Valtellina, the upper part of the valley, which shimmers with added beauty thanks to the snow.

The Strada del Bosco – the ‘wood road’ – sets off from S. Carlo towards the Decauville, then drops down to create a larger loop featuring a former mule track past La Tea, Pian del Beppo and Teola. With a pretty significant elevation gain on the menu, this route really lets you make the most of the stellar views, dazzling landscape and magical snow-covered forest.

Certain to plaster a smile on your face, the Giro Felice – the ‘joyful circuit’ – doubles as a snowshoe or ski touring route, setting off from Zardin in Isolaccia and climbing up to the Madonnina di Prescedont.
