Mapped out as the largest
municipality in Valtellina, there is no shortage of snowshoe routes up
here.
If you’ve ever dreamed of a winter wonderland, it probably looks a lot like Val
Viola, which has a range of walks including circular ones that take you through
the most jaw-dropping scenery in Alta Valtellina, the upper part of the valley,
which shimmers with added beauty thanks to the snow.
The Strada del Bosco – the ‘wood road’ – sets off from S. Carlo towards the
Decauville, then drops down to create a larger loop featuring a former mule
track past La Tea, Pian del Beppo and Teola. With a pretty significant
elevation gain on the menu, this route really lets you make the most of the
stellar views, dazzling landscape and magical snow-covered forest.
Certain to plaster a smile on your face, the Giro
Felice – the ‘joyful circuit’ – doubles as a snowshoe or ski touring route,
setting off from Zardin in Isolaccia and climbing up to the Madonnina di
Prescedont.
