Trekking and walks in Tirano and surroundings

Bordering Switzerland, Tirano is a good place to start a hike, with ample routes to choose from, including ones through the patchwork of steep, terraced vineyards that line the Rhaetian Alps side of Valtellina. Don’t miss the Sentiero dei Contrabbandieri (the Smugglers’ Trail) or the fascinating Circuito dei Castelli (Circuit of the Castles), as well as the idyllic stroll up from Tirano to the Chiesa di S. Perpetua to gorge on the panoramic views.

Next door to Tirano, the ludicrously beautiful Val Grosina rises from the town of Grosio. Considered one of the most beautiful spots in Valtellina, it’s awash with verdant pastures and picture-perfect scenery.
