It’s the main town of Valmalenco, close to Sondrio, and it overlooks the famous mountain chains of Disgrazia, Bernina and Scalino.
Chiesa, along with Caspoggio and Lanzada, is a tourist resort with good hotel accomodation and a lot of facilities.The ski area is situated in the beautiful scenary of Alpe Palù with 30 km of ski slopes, an important snowpark and trails for nordic skiing. In summer, its naturalistic, historical and ethografical background is very appreciated. The large number of trails among the refuges give the opportunity to make different types of excursions and ascents.
To visit the parish church of SS. Giacomo e Filippo with important paintings by Ligari and the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie in Primolo (XVII c.)
The economy of the valley is based on tourism and stone quarrying, especially the serpentinite and the “ollare” stone, that is used to create “lavecc” (typical pots) and decorative articles.
