Two types of races are scheduled on the slopes of Pizzo Stella in Valchiavenna: two mountain running competitions that unfold at the foot of one of the most significant peaks in the Rhaetian Alps:
Pizzo Stella (3,163 m).
Pizzostella Skymarathon:
A 42 km trail with a 3,600 m elevation gain. The race is affiliated with F.I.Sky, the Italian Skyrunning Federation, classified as ISF CC level 2, and included in the calendar of races of national interest – Italian SkyMarathon Championships. The race passes through four different municipalities in Valchiavenna: Campodolcino, San Giacomo Filippo, Piuro, and Madesimo, passing first Pizzo Sommavalle (2,760 m) and then Pizzo Groppera (2,948 m – maximum altitude).
Pizzostella Skyrace:
For the 2026 edition, the organizers are proposing a new format for the SkyRace: 27 km in length with a positive elevation gain of 2,430 m. The race passes through three different municipalities in Valchiavenna: Campodolcino, San Giacomo Filippo, and Piuro.
