Childhood experiences last a lifetime, and Valtellina’s many educational farms offer a world of authentic, natural experiences to explore. Living amongst nature, learning what it means to be a farmer or producer, respecting the animals and looking after them, gaining a better understanding of (healthy) food life cycles – these are just some of the many themes that are covered in an entertaining way.
One of the
first farm complexes you come to when you cross into southern Valtellina is La
Fiorida in Mantello,
which offers a rich programme of animal activities where the whole family can
care for, feed and learn about the animals, as well as visit the milking
parlour, cheese factory, and ageing facility. Further ahead and closer to
Morbegno is Fattoria Sempreverde, an educational farm that makes for a great
family holiday location. Tranquillity, educational gardening workshops,
woodlands, sensory farm activities, animals and summer agritourism weeks are
just some of the highlights of the Fattoria’s full immersion programme. At the
Isola del Cavallo Valtellina in Talamona even the littlies can enjoy a day
communing with the animals. Horses, cows, pigs, goats and sheep co-habit with
adorable alpacas at the Azienda Agricola La Foppa in Caspoggio. What better way to enjoy the Alpine vistas
than on a walk with the alpacas? The farm also sells a range of products made
with wool from their own flock.
On the road to Passo Gavia in Valfurva, the Malga dell’Alpe is an oasis for families with children. From visits to the stables and milk factory to activities with the animals, the farm focuses on raising awareness of rural life as it is experienced today. Comfortable casual attire is recommended to ensure the kids enjoy the farm to the utmost as they learn about responsible consumption and respect for the environment from a different point of view.
