Precious historic and architectural gems
Take a breathtaking trip back in time and experience the history and
beauty of Valtellina’s architecture by visiting the many historical buildings that
stud the region, especially in Mid-Lower Valtellina.
In Teglio, Palazzo Besta is a must. This noble residence is famous for its internal courtyard and rooms
frescoed with scenes from Virgil’s Aeneid. Tirano
has a number of historical buildings, such as the 17th-century Palazzo Salis, with its rich
painted decor; Palazzo Merizzi;
and Casa- Museo d’Oro Lambertenghi. Not far from
Tirano are Palazzo Omodei (Sernio) and Villa Visconti (Grosio).
In Sondrio, the provincial capital, magnificent Palazzo Sertoli is renowned for its stunning Rococo salon, known as the “salone dei balli” or dance hall. In Morbegno you’ll find Palazzo Malacrida, which is said to be the most beautiful of all Venetian palazzos – a long wayfar from Venice!
Valchiavenna adds to the wealth of Valtellina’s historical palazzos with one of the most spectacular 16th-century residences in Lombardy, Palazzo Vertemate Franchi, which nestles in a beautiful park comprising a vineyard, orchard, kitchen garden and Italian-style gardens.
