Christmas villages have been livening up the Valtellina squares since the end of November
Things are always Christmassy when you’re in the mountains. With snow-capped mountains in all directions, towns and villages throughout Valtellina sparkle in winter with a great calendar of events, including unmissable Christmas markets, where twinkling lights and all manner of wares on sale will inspire your Christmas shopping.
VALCHIAVENNA
In Valchiavenna, the markets are scheduled for November 23rd in Prata Camportaccio, complete with Christmas carols and guided tours of the Crotti, and the one in Mese on November 30th at the A2A power plant, with Santa Claus and games with the elves.
In Novate Mezzola on December 7th, the village comes alive with displays of hobbies, local crafts, and traditional decorations.
On December 13th, it will be the turn of Villa di Chiavenna, a village near Motta, while on December 13th and 14th, Chiavenna itself lights up and comes alive in Piazzale Bertacchi and throughout the historic center with the participation of the Christmas bagpipes, transforming it even more into a fairytale place.
On December 14th, Gordona, in Piazza San Martino, offers a rich program of entertainment for children, including a treasure hunt and the arrival of Santa Claus, in addition to the markets.
Finally, Campodolcino on December 30th
offers the opportunity to find original gifts and taste traditional sweets.
LOWER VALTELLINA
On December 7th and 8th, Morbegno is hosting Christmas Art, the Christmas market. The event will be held in the splendid setting of the former Dominican convent of Sant'Antonio, in the city center. Exhibitors selling local handicrafts will be hosted within the two frescoed cloisters, while entertainment activities and workshops for adults and children will take place in the splendid halls of the complex.
On Sunday, December 7th, Cino is hosting MercaCino, with Christmas markets and children's workshops during the day and a chestnut festival in the afternoon.
In Civo, the Christmas village will be on December 14th.
MIDDLE VALTELLINA
In Sondrio, the traditional markets, held on the weekends of December 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, and until Christmas on December 20, 21, 22, 23, and 24 in Piazza Garibaldi and Corso Italia, will offer a wide selection of artisanal, agricultural, hobby, and charity products, for those who want to immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere and purchase original, quality Christmas gifts.
Amidst lights, scents, and melodies, Mazzo di Valtellina is organizing the 22nd edition of its Christmas Markets in Piazza Santo Stefano on December 7th from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., featuring free guided tours, exhibitions, music, tastings, and children's workshops.
From December 5th to 8th, Tirano will transform into an enchanting Christmas village, with wooden huts, traditional products, and an intimate, cozy atmosphere. The Epiphany Market will be held from January 3rd to 6th.
Starting Saturday, December 6th, the magical Christmas village returns to Piazza delle Sei Contrade in Aprica, hosting numerous artisan stalls in characteristic wooden huts from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.
The Aprica markets will also be held on December 7th and 8th, December 13th and 14th, and from December 20th, 2025, to January 6th, 2026.
In Villa di Tirano, the Christmas Village is scheduled for Monday, December 8th, 2025, at the Multifunctional Center: an entire day dedicated to the magic of Christmas, designed to engage adults and children in a festive atmosphere, with games, shows, music, and traditional flavors.
ALTA VALTELLINA
In Bormio, the meeting point is the Gardens of Piazza V Alpini, where the Christmas atmosphere intertwines with the warmth of artistic and family-run crafts.
The Christmas markets, open from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., will be open on November 28, 29, and 30, December 6, 7, and 8, December 12, 13, and 14, and from December 19 to January 6, 2026 (inclusive). They close at 3:00 p.m. on December 24 and 31, and are closed all day on December 25 and 26, and January 1.
In Valdidentro, the magic of Christmas awaits you as you hit the slopes, amidst twinkling lights, music, and the scent of mulled wine. Wooden stalls will offer artisanal products, traditional sweets, and many gift ideas, while the atmosphere will be enlivened by shows and entertainment. The arrival of Santa Claus will bring joy and wonder, and the release of biodegradable balloons with letters to Santa Lucia will make the sky a colorful dream filled with wishes.
The markets will be held on December 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 28, 29, 30, and 31, and January 3 and 4.
In Santa Caterina Valfurva, from December 6th to January 3rd, the town square transforms into a magical Christmas village. The Christmas stalls, adorned with lights and decorations, offer artisanal products and countless gift ideas, amidst the scent of mulled wine and a unique festive atmosphere.
Livigno hosts traditional Christmas markets along the streets of its center from November 28th to January 6th: the village is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
