Two
days at the end of the summer grazing period celebrating the return of the
mountain farmers and their livestock as they come down from high
altitude pastures.
True to tradition, Chiareggio
comes out in force to celebrate the return of the ‘bacàn’, the mountain farmers
who live a life of solitude for three months on the mountain pastures as they
guard over their herd. This two-day festival brings you up-close with the
passionate characters who have dedicated themselves to this humble lifestyle.
Opportunities to celebrate the
Festa dell’Alpeggio aren’t limited to Chiareggio – all over Valmalenco you’ll
find tastings of cheese, dairy produce, and other typical delicacies to indulge
in, as well as the chance to discover a slew of artisanship and traditional
crafts that are being handed down from generation to generation.
