Church of San Gallo a Premadio

CONTACT: Premadio Parish - parrocchiaisolaccia@virgilio.it - Sunday 7:00 pm

DIRECTIONS: from SS 301, after crossing the village of Bormio, take Via ai Forni

DESCRIPTION: the church with its pitched roof, combined with the bell tower with its pointed cusp, form the most characteristic Gothic-style building. Documents attest that it has existed since 1243. An aura of mystery surrounds the church’s origin, since the date when it was founded and its original function are both unknown. The church may have been annexed to a xenodochium, built to shelter travellers, or may have been part of a fortified complex or a small monastery.

INTERESTING FACT: a mummy, perhaps of a monk or parish priest, was discovered inside the church.
