Alpe Culino

A family-friendly walk to discover life on an Alpine pasture

More of a stroll than a strenuous hike, this Val Gerola route gives you a front row view of life on an Alpine pasture, including the milking of the cows and the preparation of the local Bitto cheese inside one of the characteristic huts called calecc. From Rifugio Bar Bianco in Rasura at 1,510 metres of elevation, you’ll first walk to Baita del Prato, before following signs for Val di Paiper up to Lago Culino at 1,959 metres and then Baita Culino at 2,042 metres. If you’re feeling energetic, add on the Cima Rosetta at 2,142 metres of elevation, reachable from either Baita del Prato or Baita Culino.

Start: Rifugio Bar Bianco (Rasura) 1510 m
Finish: Baita Culino 2042 m
