Alright, alright – skiing is
great, we won’t argue with you. But we also know that there’s so much more to
this season than just shredding the white stuff on skis – especially in
Valtellina.
Here’s our edit of four must-do Extra
Ski goings-on in Valtellina this season, which cater for all abilities,
fitness levels and tastes.
Just outside of Bormio stands
Sondalo, which is home to the enchanting Val di Rezzalo, one of the most
unspoilt pearls within the Stelvio National Park. As well as being a hit for
snowshoeing, ski touring and ski mountaineering, this valley also has a roughly
3.5 km sledge run that’s suitable for all and truly stunning given the
snow-clad surroundings.
The sledging track starts from the plateau around S. Bernando, where there’s a
church of the same name. Trek back up the same route through the spruce trees.
It’s unchallenging on the whole, but there is a climb of approximately 350
metres from where you park your car in Fumero.
If you haven’t got your own sledge, these can be
hired directly from Rifugio La Baita, next to the start of the run.
Midway between Bormio and Livigno awaits the Husky
Village, where a team of experienced Husky dogs – bred for the task – are
looking forward to guiding you in this unforgettable experience.
Take on the role of musher and all the thrills it entails
when you’re at the helm of a sled pulled along by the pack – just like in
Alaska, only we’re still in Valtellina.
Suitable for adults and children, this family-friendly
activity sets off from Arnoga. On the official website it’s possible to
purchase gift vouchers, valid for one year from the date of purchase, which
make a truly unique present.
Throwing a curveball with this suggestion, but who would
have imagined that you could go trekking with llamas and alpacas in Valtellina?
It’s true – and this unusual activity is probably going to become your
next-favourite pastime.
Make a beeline to Livigno’s neighbourhood of Tresenda to
get better acquainted with these socially-minded creatures, who enjoy nothing
more than strolling through the snow-blanketed scenery with you. For more info: https://www.livigno.eu/en/event/walk-with-lamas-and-alpacas
Meanwhile in Valmalenco, the knowledgeable and considerate Azienda Agricola La
Foppa look after their alpacas as if they were one of the family. Head here for
organised walks in both summer and winter to explore the stunning landscape,
discover local history, and taste some delectable regional cuisine. It’s slow
trekking-meets-slow food, and certain to delight adults and children in equal
measures. For more info: https://www.sondrioevalmalenco.it/en/escursioni-con-alpaca
When
it comes to romantic encounters with animals, Livigno organises specialist
