Church of Santi Martino e Urbano a Pedenosso

CONTACT: Isolaccia Parish - parrocchiaisolaccia@virgilio.it - Sunday 10:00 am / Saturday 8:30 pm

DIRECTIONS: the church can be reached from Isolaccia, by climbing to Pedenosso in Piazza S. Martino, or from Bormio, at the Fior d’Alpe intersection, following signs for Pedenosso

DESCRIPTION: while there are no archival documents that attest to the church’s age, it is certainly ancient, perhaps even dating to the Carolingian era. Given its floor plan and position, the church may have been used in the past as a fortress or stronghold to protect the valley. The organ built in the late nineteenth century is also very beautiful.

INTERESTING FACT: a painstaking restoration carried out in the 1990s enhanced the entire church, and, more importantly, revealed a unique painting that was hidden by the main altar. It depicts the well-known Old Testament scene of Adam and Eve picking the forbidden fruit.
