Take the road towards Albaredo per
San Marco out of Morbegno, driving around 5 km up to an elevation of 1,300
metres. Once here, swing left onto the farm track and follow it until a large
car park, about 1 km further on.
Begin by walking onto the track on the right hand
side, which you’ll recognise because of its barrier. It’s signposted from here
on and it’ll take roughly an hour to reach Rifugio Alpe Piazza at 1,835 metres
above sea level, run by Nadia Cavallo (tel. +39 3384647620).
From the rifugio, you can follow a trail up to Monte Lago at 2,253 metres –
this takes about an hour, and it is worth the effort to admire the dizzying
views of Lake Como, as well as mountain peaks in all directions (both the
Orobic and the Rhaetian sides will be in sight).
Difficulty: Requires limited
hiking experience from Albaredo to Rifugio Alpe Piazza | Intermediate
difficulty from the Rifugio to Monte Lago
Duration: 2 h Albaredo–Rifugio |
Additional 1 h Rifugio–Monte Lago.
