The uphill part has a fairly high average gradient of 10% with peaks of 15% in the last part: be careful of frequent use of medium/high pedal assist. This fairly quiet tarmacked road goes up the southern slope of Monte Masuccio, through a diverse range of beautiful surroundings. There are vineyards along all of the first part to the village of Baruffini and its typical rural stone houses with their elegant long wood balconies, blackened, like their façades, by chimney smoke. Continue along the road up through woods and meadows. On the right you will pass turnoffs for Prà Fontana and Alpe Ghiaccia, then through Prà Baruzzo and the last few steep kilometres before Prà Campo, which used to be home to a finance corps barracks (the building is still standing). Your destination is the huge panoramic meadow overlooking the Middle Valtellina.
