The route starts in Stazzona (Villa di Tirano), after 3.5 kilometres it joins the Aprica state road, turning left towards Trivigno at the second fork (after the big bend). This is where the real uphill stretch of Passo di Santa Cristina starts, with a constant gradient of around 10% that increases to 14% on the last part before the pass, making medium pedal assist obligatory. It is a mostly shady route through lovely scenery, with no traffic. After the pass, it's downhill to the right to Aprica, then right again along the rough track to Pian Gembro. Here you can visit the Nature Oases and museum, admire the view to the east of the Adamello mountain range and, especially, eat your fill in the various restaurants and farmhouse holidays before you set off back down.
