March begins with a tradition widespread throughout Valtellina and Valchiavenna: at the beginning of the month, joyful children roam the fields and clang their cowbells to awaken the grass and encourage it to grow again after its long winter slumber. This is the ritual of "ciamà l'erba," organized in many municipalities of the valley, from Dubino to Traona, from Teglio to Buglio in Monte, from Villa di Tirano to Lanzada.
In addition to these propitiatory events, spring is celebrated in the capital, in Tirano, and in Ponte, amidst traditions and blossoms.

The Apple Orchards Bloom
Apple cultivation complements grapevine cultivation in the municipalities of Ponte in Valtellina, Bianzone, and the surrounding areas of Villa di Tirano, Sernio, and Lovero.
Here, between late March and April, the apple orchards in bloom are an exceptional spectacle, transforming the entire valley into a sea of pink and white, creating a magnificent contrast between the delicate flowers, the bright green meadows, and the still-snowcapped Alpine peaks.
