Historic palaces in Tirano

Valtellina’s wealth of must-see palazzi, featuring Salis, Merizzi, Lambertenghi d’Oro, and Grosio’s Villa Visconti

Not just the starting point for the UNESCO heritage Bernina Express railway, Tirano is also resplendent with prestigious palazzi that are of great historical and artistic importance.

Palazzo Salis surely represents the most important of its kind. Built at the turn of the 17th century, it now houses a museum of notable historic furniture, artwork and artefacts as well as a stunning Italian-style garden that will turn your head.

Tirano is also home to the magnificent Palazzo Merizzi and Casa Lambertenghi d’Oro, while a few kilometres up the valley in Grosio you’ll find Villa Visconti, which now serves as a local library.
