Located in the Parco Nazionale
dello Stelvio, Valdisotto’s Riserva del Paluaccio di Oga is of particular
environmental interest.
This peaty moorland is of special interest, especially its flora.
Founded in 1983, the reserve spans some 30
hectares and contains a variety of
protected environments of special interest, such as low and intermediate
peat bogs, peaty meadows, nard grasslands and wooded areas. One of the most
singular features of the reserve is the presence of Drosera rotundifolia,
or round-leaved sundew, a carnivorous plant that became established due to the
lack of nutrients in the soil.
The most easily recognisable characteristic of the mires are the hummocks, or knolls, of sphagnum (a
type of moss that constantly grows thicker and thicker).
