For a
breath-taking backdrop with dramatic, largely unspoilt scenery, Valgerola is
the place to be.
With myriad hiking trails, Pizzo dei Tre Signori is
regarded as one of the best in terms of excitement and variety. From Gerola,
the route rises through the Valle della Pietra until the pasture of Trona
Soliva, which leads you up to the Bocchetta di Trona. Catch your breath before
setting off for the remainder of the climb to reach the summit of Pizzo dei Tre
Signori. It’s a staggeringly beautiful crest with relentless views.
Walking
the Gran Via delle Orobie is a big thing: this high-altitude traverse –
one of the most important hikes in the Parco delle Orobie Valtellinese – is the
best way to get a glimpse of every single Orobic valley, where no two views or
sections are the same. From lush forests to green pastures, Alpine lakes to
imposing rock faces and mountain peaks, it’s an adventure beyond topography and
touches on the topics of ethnography and the natural world too.
There’s
a waymarked, family-friendly educational trail from Rifugio Bar Bianco to Alpe
Culino, which lets you learn more about life on a high-altitude meadow, milking
cows and preparing the iconic local Bitto cheese inside one of the typical calecc huts.
