Spring activities in Valtellina

Valtellina awaits you with lots of run springtime experiences:  river sports, bike rides, walks in parks and the sights and sounds of the mountains Valtellina is the ideal destination for spending quality time with your family. Whether you are having fun, relaxing or learning, there are plenty of ideas that will make everyone happy - young and old.

1. Trekking

With the arrival of warmer weather, hiking in Valtellina resumes on the simplest and sunniest trails: those along the Via dei Terrazzamenti (Terraced Terraces). These sunny areas invite early spring hikes, offering light and undemanding options. The best routes are on the south-facing Rhaetian side, where the sun warms the terraced vineyards.
Here are some of the best options for spring hiking in Valtellina:
Val di Mello: an accessible natural oasis, perfect in spring for walks through meadows, woods, lakes, and waterfalls;
Smugglers' Trail in the Tirano area: a historic, panoramic, medium-altitude trail that passes through vineyards and ancient villages, ideal between April and May;
Anello delle Poire (Civo): an easy 5-kilometer route nestled in a valley of meadows with spectacular views of Lake Como and the valley.

2. SUSPENDED EMOTIONS

The Ponte nel Cielo - Bridge in the Sky - is a 234-meter-long Tibetan footbridge located 140 meters above sea level in Val Tartano, near Morbegno. From here, you can admire beautiful views of the valley floor and a spectacular view all the way to Lake Como.
The Cassandre footbridge, suspended over the Mallero stream, offers a privileged view of the city of Sondrio and the deep gorges of the Mallero stream (hence its name). Passing from the hamlet of Ponchiera to the hamlet of Mossini, it can be explored on foot or by bicycle.
In Valchiavenna, between the villages of Campodolcino and Fraciscio, you can cross the Caurga della Rabbiosa Tibetan Bridge. Inaugurated in 2024, it spans a gorge with vertical walls smoothed by the force of the water, through which the Rabbiosa stream flows.

3. out on a bike ride

Two wheels are perfect for spending time together in Valtellina. The Sentiero Valtellina trail and the Ciclabile della Valchiavenna cycle path invite you to discover this region at a slow pace. The two routes, 100 kilometres the former, 50 the latter, meet up near the Pian di Spagna Nature Reserve. These two pedestrian-cycle paths run mainly on the flat, with just a few slight inclines and can be tackled by anyone, even by families with children. There are lots of mountain bike trails: Livigno, Bormio, Tirano, Valdidentro, Valdisotto and many other places totally immersed in nature.
