The Pian di Spagna Nature Reserve is located at the top of Lake Como. These extensive wetlands are of
significant ecological interest due to the presence of a huge variety of
migratory birds.
In Chiavenna, there is
another conservation area, the Parco delle Marmitte dei Giganti, whose primary attraction is the deep, oddly shaped
holes dug into the stone by the action of glacial waters, which are called Marmitte
dei Giganti, or Giants’ Pots.
Piuro, which has been
subject to archaeological digging, boasts a veritable natural monument, the Cascate dell'Acquafraggia,, which were mentioned by Leonardo Da Vinci in
his Codex Atlanticus.
